Tank and the Bangas

Tarriona “Tank” Ball, born 2011 in New Orleans, Louisiana, is the lead vocalist of New  Orleans‑based band Tank and the Bangas. The group formed in 2011 after members met at the Liberation Lounge; early performances were self‑released before signing with Verve Forecast. In 2017 the band won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest with the single "Quick", propelling their debut album Think Tank (2013) into national attention. Subsequent releases-Green Balloon (2019), Red Balloon (2022), and The Heart, the Mind, the Soul (2024)-earned nominations at the 2020, 2023, and 2024 Grammys, respectively; the latter won Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2025. The 2026 album The Last Balloon and the single "Move" continued their presence, while collaborations such as "Todo Colores" with Robert Glasper, Ibrahim Maalouf and Cimafunk highlighted their eclectic style.
