Tanika Charles, born on December 7, 1987 in Canada, is a singer known for her work in contemporary R&B and soul music. She moved to Toronto from Edmonton in the late 2000s and gained experience as a backing vocalist for artists like Bedouin Soundclash and Johnny Reid. Charles released her debut EP What! What? What! under the stage name Ms. Chawlz in 2010. Her full-length debut album, Soul Run, was released on May 10, 2016, featuring singles "Soul Run" and "Two Steps", both of which were playlisted on CBC Radio 2 and charted on the Radio 2 Top 20. The album was longlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and shortlisted for the Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year in 2017. Her music has featured in various television shows and released her second album, The Gumption, in 2019.
