The Soul Survivors

The Soul Survivors, an American soul and R&B group, were founded in 1965 by New York natives Richie Ingui, Charlie Ingui, and Kenny Jeremiah. Originally known as The Dedications, the group released several singles under this name before adopting their new moniker. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Expressway to Your Heart" in 1967, a collaboration with producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. The single reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies. Following this success, the Soul Survivors released another two albums: Take Another Look (1969) and Soul Survivors (1974) as well as the non-album singles "Explosion in Your Soul" and "Impossible Mission". The group disbanded in the 1970s but reunited occasionally for performances. Richie Ingui died of heart failure on January 13, 2017, at the age of 70. Kenny Jeremiah passed away from COVID-19 on December 4, 2020, at age 78.
