The Soul Survivors

The Soul Survivors is an American soul and R&B group originally formed in New York as The Dedications before adopting its final name in 1965. The core lineup was founded by Charlie Ingui, Richie Ingui, and Kenny Jeremiah. The group's breakthrough came with the single “Expressway to Your Heart” (1967), produced by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, which reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies. The debut studio album, When the Whistle Blows Anything Goes, followed in 1967. Subsequent single releases include “Explosion in Your Soul” (1967), which reached number 33 on the U.S. charts, and “Impossible Mission (Mission Impossible)” (1968), which peaked at number 68. After a brief hiatus, the members reformed in 1972 with a different lineup, releasing the self-titled studio album Soul Survivors (1974) and achieving another hit with the single “City of Brotherly Love” (1974). Although the group disbanded in the late 1970s, the Ingui brothers resumed activity in 1987. Richie Ingui died of heart failure on January 13, 2017, and Kenny Jeremiah died of COVID-19 on December 4, 2020.
