Sunflower Bean is a Brooklyn-based indie rock trio renowned for their fusion of glam rock, dream pop, and post-punk revival. Formed in 2013, the band comprises vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming, guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen, and drummer Olive Faber. Emerging from New York's vibrant DIY scene, Sunflower Bean quickly gained attention with their debut EP, Show Me Your Seven Secrets, in 2015. Their first full-length album, Human Ceremony (2016), showcased a blend of psychedelic rock and indie pop, drawing comparisons to The Velvet Underground and Fleetwood Mac. Their sophomore album, Twentytwo in Blue (2018), marked a maturation in their sound, incorporating political themes and refined songwriting. This evolution continued with Headful of Sugar (2022), which delved into themes of disillusionment with modern life, set against a backdrop of pop-rock and disco influences. In 2025, Sunflower Bean released their fourth studio album, Mortal Primetime, a self-produced project that melds alternative rock, folk, and dream pop elements. The album reflects the band's continued growth and experimentation, solidifying their place in the contemporary indie rock landscape.
