SOiL

SOiL, formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1997, began as a side project of members from death‑metal acts Oppressor and Broken Hope, with Ryan McCombs on vocals, Adam Zadel on lead guitar, Tim King on bass, Shaun Glass on rhythm guitar, and Tom Schofield on drums. The band released independent EPs Soil and El Chupacabra before signing to J Records, where the breakthrough came with the single "Halo" that entered mainstream radio in 2001. Their major‑label debut Scars was issued on 11 September 2001, followed by Redefine on 22 March 2004; both albums were supported by worldwide tours and earned the band the Metal Edge Readers' Choice Award in 2001. After frontman Ryan McCombs departed in late 2004, A.J. Cavalier joined and the group released True Self (2006) and Picture Perfect (2009) on independent labels. McCombs returned in 2011 for a commemorative tour of Scars, and the band released Whole in 2013, funded via Kickstarter. Subsequent compilations include Scream: The Essentials (2017) and cover‑album Play It Forward (2022). In 2023, SOiL issued Restoration, a collection of re‑recorded tracks, marking the latest milestone in their enduring catalog.
