Smith

Smith, a rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1969. The group initially evolved from another band featuring some of the same members called "The Smiths." Their breakthrough came with the release of "Baby It's You", a cover of Burt Bacharach's song featuring Gayle McCormick on lead vocals. This single reached number 5 on the U.S. Billboard chart and sold over one million copies, earning a gold record from the Recording Industry Association of America by October 1969. The band released their debut album A Group Called Smith in 1969, which spent 11 weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart. Their second album, Minus-Plus, was released in 1970 but had less commercial success, peaking at number 74 on the charts. The band's version of "The Weight" was included on the soundtrack for the film Easy Rider. Smith disbanded after two albums and a few singles including "Take A Look Around" and "What Am I Gonna Do". McCormick pursued a solo career post-Smith, releasing three albums: Gayle McCormick, Flesh & Blood, and One More Hour. The band's hit "Baby It's You" was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Death Proof.
