Skin Yard

Skin Yard was an American grunge band formed in Seattle, Washington, in January 1985 by Daniel House and Jack Endino. The group initially included vocalist Ben McMillan, drummer Matt Cameron, and House on bass. Skin Yard played its first official concert on June 7, 1985, and contributed two songs to the influential Deep Six compilation (1985). Their self-titled debut album was released in 1987, featuring the single "Gelatin Babies". After Cameron left for Soundgarden, the band went through several drummers before settling on Barrett Martin in 1990. Notable albums include Hallowed Ground (1988), Fist Sized Chunks (1990), and 1000 Smiling Knuckles (1991). Their final studio album, Inside the Eye, was released in 1993, after which the band disbanded. Later releases include the rarities compilation Start at the Top (2001). McMillan died of diabetes in 2008. In 2017, the music website Metal Injection ranked Skin Yard at number 8 on its list of the 10 heaviest grunge bands.
