Green River

Green River was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Mark Arm, guitarist Steve Turner, drummer Alex Vincent, and bassist Jeff Ament, with guitarist Stone Gossard joining shortly after. The group recorded its first demos on June 23, 1984, at Reciprocal Recording. Following the departure of Turner, who was replaced by Bruce Fairweather, the band released the debut EP Come On Down (1985) in November 1985, which is often considered the first grunge record. In 1986, the group contributed two tracks to the compilation album Deep Six (1986) and released the EP Dry as a Bone (1987) through Sub Pop in July 1987. Stylistic disagreements and internal conflicts led Ament, Gossard, and Fairweather to quit the band in October 1987, resulting in its dissolution. Their only studio album, Rehab Doll (1988), was released in June 1988. The band reunited for several live performances in 2008 and 2009.
