Sido

Sido is not only one of Germany's most successful rappers. The man, who was born Paul Hartmut Würdig on November 30 in East Berlin, has also demonstrated impressive skills as a producer and actor over the course of his career. Würdig's musical career began in 1997, when he took part in battles in the Berlin rap underground with his friend and roommate Bobby Davis, alias B-Tight, under the name Royal TS. After several releases under the independent label Royal Bunker, Sido switched to Aggro Berlin at the beginning of the new millennium, which created a sampler series between 2002 and 2005 with Aggro Ansagen Nr. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, which had a fundamental influence on German gangsta rap. His solo debut Maske reached number 3 in the album charts in 2004. The successor Ich (2006) achieved gold status through pre-orders even before the actual release date, with singles such as "Straßenjunge" and "Schlechtes Vorbild" also achieving respectable success in German-language hit lists. With his third album Ich und meine Maske , Sido achieved his first number 1 album. After Aggro Berlin disbanded in 2009, Würdig released his fourth album with Universal in the same year, with the title Aggro Berlin being a tribute to his previous label home. After a successful collabo album 23 with German rap heavyweight Bushido, which accompanies the high-profile reconciliation of the two after years of disagreement, Sido releases solo again in 2013: On 30-11-80, the next number 1 album, whose title refers to Würdig's date of birth, the MC dedicates himself to his family and, despite all gangsta rap clichés, stands by his role as a father and role model. But in Das Goldene Album (2016), he increasingly recalls his street-smart origins. Meanwhile, with Ich und meine Maske(2019), which brings together German hip-hop and pop luminaries such as Samra, Kool Savas, Nico Santos, Johannes Oerding and Apache 207, Sido ascends the throne of the German album charts for the third time. After a short creative break, Sido returns in 2022 with the album Paul. This is the rapper's first number 1 album in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
