Show of Hands

Show of Hands is an English acoustic roots and folk ensemble formed in 1986 in Devon. The group was established by singer-songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer. The duo performed at the Wimborne Festival in 1986 and released its debut studio recording, Show of Hands, in 1987. Its early discography included the albums Tall Ships (1990) and Out for the Count (1991). In 2004, singer and double-bassist Miranda Sykes joined the ensemble for tours and later recordings. The group was voted Greatest Devonians Ever in a 2006 poll by Devon County Council. The ensemble released the recording “Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed” in 2009, which received the Best Song award at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The band's later recordings included Wake the Union (2012) and Battlefield Dance Floor (2019).
