Shamir Bailey, known mononymously as Shamir, is an American singer-songwriter born on November 7, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada, whose genre-defying career began with the 2014 EP Northtown, blending disco, R&B, and indie influences. His 2015 debut album Ratchet, featuring the breakout single "On the Regular," garnered critical acclaim for its fusion of electronic pop and his distinctive countertenor voice. Following a departure from XL Recordings, Shamir independently released Hope and Revelations in 2017, showcasing a lo-fi, guitar-driven sound that delved into personal themes, including mental health and identity. Subsequent albums like Resolution (2018), Be the Yee, Here Comes the Haw (2019), and Cataclysm (2020) further demonstrated his versatility across genres. His self-titled 2020 album amalgamated elements of folk, indie rock, and synth-pop, while Heterosexuality (2022) and Homo Anxietatem (2023) explored avant-garde pop and shoegaze, addressing topics like queerness and anxiety. In 2025, Shamir announced his final solo album, Ten, a compilation of unreleased demos and collaborations, including the singles "Neverwannago" and "Recording 291," marking the culmination of a decade-long, boundary-pushing musical journey.
