Shadowfax

Shadowfax was formed in Chicago in 1972 by lyricon player and leader Chuck Greenberg, born 1972, who later became the band’s central composer and arranger. Their 1976 release Watercourse Way established a blend of chamber jazz, new‑age, and electronic elements. Over the next decade they issued albums-Shadowdance (1983), Folksongs for a Nuclear Village (1988), Esperanto (1992), Magic Theater (1994)-and achieved international touring acclaim. In 1989, Folksongs for a Nuclear Village earned them the Grammy Award for Best New Age Performance, and in 1993 they received a Grammy nomination for Esperanto. The band disbanded in 1995 following Chuck Greenberg’s death from a heart attack, after which members pursued separate projects.
