Sexteto Mayor, an Argentine tango musical group, was founded in 1973 by Luis Stazo and José Libertella. The group gained international recognition in 1981 with their performance at the inauguration of Trottoirs de Buenos Aires in Paris. They were integral to the famous spectacle Tango Argentino, which debuted in Paris in 1983 and later achieved global success on Broadway in 1985. In 2003, Sexteto Mayor became the first Argentine tango group to win a Latin Grammy Award. Throughout their career, they underwent several lineup changes due to member departures and deaths, including the death of José Libertella in 2004 and the departure of Luis Stazo in 2005.
