Ruth Lyon (born 1991) is a British indie singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her distinctive blend of baroque pop, alt-folk, and richly orchestrated indie rock. Her deeply personal songwriting, often addressing themes of disability, identity, vulnerability, and self-empowerment, has marked her as a bold and necessary voice in contemporary music. Growing up in North Yorkshire, she began classical training in music from a young age, later studying at Newcastle University. In her early 20s, she co-founded the folk-rock band Holy Moly & The Crackers, where she plays viola and provides lead vocals. The band gained national recognition with the release of their 2017 album Salem, followed by extensive UK and European touring, including major festival appearances at Glastonbury, Boomtown, and Cambridge Folk Festival. In 2020, Ruth Lyon launched her solo career under her own name, seeking to create music that reflected her individual voice and experiences. Her debut solo EP, Nothing’s Perfect, released in November 2021 via Humble Angel Records, was a confessional, piano-led collection produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding). In 2022, she followed up with her second EP, Direct Debit To Vogue. Lyon lives with a rare genetic condition that affects her mobility, and she is an outspoken advocate for disability rights in the music industry. In 2025, she welcomed the release of her debut album Poems & Non Fiction.
