Composed of rapper Rodney Oliver aka Rodney O, DJ Joe Cooley and Jeffrey Page aka General Jeff, the Rodney-O & Joe Cooley trio is an American rap group formed around 1987 in Los Angeles. In 1988, the group, signed to the Egyptian Empire label, scored their first hit with "This Is for the Homies", charting at no. 17 on the rap charts and taken from their debut album Me and Joe (charted at no. 187 on the Billboard 200). Uncharted, "Everlasting Bass" became a cult track, ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the twenty best of the West Coast genre released before the debut N.W.A. Emblematic of the West Coast electro-rap scene tinged with Californian g-funk and Miami bass influences, the Atlantic trio recorded the album Three the Hard Way (1990, No. 128), from which the single "Say It Loud" was taken, their biggest hit, reaching No. 4 in the rap charts. In 1991, the third album Get Ready to Roll for the Ichiban label was boosted by the hit of the same name (#19 in the rap charts), followed by the album Fuck New York (1993) for Psychotic and its tracks "Humps for the Blvd." (#10 on the rap charts and #84 on the Billboard Hot 100) and "U Don't Hear Me Tho" (#93 on the Billboard Hot 100). Following the release of the compilation Everlasting Hits: The Best of Rodney O & Joe Cooley (1995), the trio recorded three further albums, The Final Chapter (1998), Veteran's Day (2000) and Presents Summer Heat (2002).
