Ice Cube

A key member of the seminal hip hop group NWA, Ice Cube and his pals spat furious raps about the harsh realities of street life in South Central, LA, with a rage and fury seldom previously heard. Initially making his name as part of the local group CIA, Cube's friendship with Dr Dre led to the formation of NWA and the recruitment of Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella for the classic debut album Straight Outta Compton (1988). His solo debut AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990) added to his reputation as a fierce, socio-political voice of ghetto America, before Death Certificate (1991) and US Number 1 album The Predator (1992) brought huge commercial success. He has carved out a successful acting career - starring in the classic social drama Boyz N The Hood, hit comedy Friday and the Gulf War thriller Three Kings - but he's probably most famous for the summer anthem It Was A Good Day.
