Aurélien Cotentin, better known by his rapper name Orelsan, was born in Alençon, Orne (France), on August 1, 1982. He first came to prominence on social networking sites with his first track, "Changement", which was released in 2008. A few months later, in 2009, she released her debut album Perdu d'Avance, which reached no. 64 and went platinum, winning the Prix Constantin despite the controversy surrounding the track "Sale pute", accused of inciting violence against women. Le Chant des Sirènes, released in 2011, reached number three in the French album charts. Two years later, he and his musical partner Gringe released Orelsan et Gringe Sont les Casseurs Flowters, which reached No. 8. A versatile artist, he tried his hand at cinema in 2015 with the film Comment c'est loin, in which he played the lead role, again with Gringe. The two Casseurs Flowters co-wrote the soundtrack, which reached No. 24. In 2017, the solo album La Fête Est Finie, featuring the singles "Basique" (No. 9) and "La Pluie " (No. 10) with Stromae, brought him public recognition with a No. 1 ranking in the French charts. In 2021, the rapper enjoyed equal success with his next album, Civilisation, at No. 1 on its release. The resulting single "L'Odeur de l'essence" also topped the French charts. After six more Victoires de la musique, Orelsan returns in 2025 with La Fuite en Avant, his third consecutive number-one album, featuring four tracks in the top ten: "Ailleurs", "Soleil levant" with SDM, "Boss" and "Encore une fois" with Yamê. Other collaborations on this album, inspired by the film Yoroï and co-written with director David Tomaszewski, include Thomas Bangalter and South Korean k-pop group Fifty Fifty.
