New Pants, a Chinese punk rock group formed in 1996, emerged from the highâschool music scene in China where lead vocalist Peng Lei, bassist Liu Bao, and drummer Shang Xiao first met. The trio recorded their inaugural single "I'm OK" in 1996, establishing an early presence in the local underground circuit. The bandâs debut album New Pants was released in 1998, followed by Disco Girl in 2000, We Are Automatic in 2002, Go East in 2009, Sex Drugs Internet in 2011, and Lifeâs Hot Because of You in 2016; the 2023 EP æ²ä¼¤æå added further depth to their catalog. Notable tracks such as "Do You Want To Dance?" were featured in televised performances in 2020, and the single "åä¼å°±æ¯ä¸åä¼" debuted in 2025. New Pants gained recognition for their role in popularizing newâwave punk in China and for winning the 2019 competition âThe Big Bandâ on iQiyi. Their releases consistently charted within the Chinese rock scene, and their 2011 album Sex Drugs Internet received critical acclaim for its fusion of punk energy and pop sensibilities. The groupâs continued output and media appearances have solidified their status as a significant contributor to contemporary Chinese rock.
