MUNA

Describing themselves as "a punk Wilson Phillips", Los Angeles pop trio MUNA make big, glossy synth anthems about the joys and challenges of being young and gay, and are a part of a new generation of all-female bands kicking 'girl power' into a new era. Formed whilst studying at the University of Southern California in 2013, Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson started out playing college parties and making experimental, noisy electronic pop, before releasing their EP More Perfect in 2014. Katie Gavin's poignant lyrics took on issues such as sexual abuse, identity politics and romantic heartbreak, and, after landing a deal with RCA Records, their debut album About U, released in 2017, was full of empowering, righteous celebratory pop that won them a big following in the LGBT community. Dutch techno DJ Tiësto also remixed their track "Winterbreak" and they found an even bigger audience when they opened for Harry Styles on his North American tour before they returned in 2018 with EP One Year On. After the release of their second LP Saves the World in 2019, MUNA collaborated with Phoebe Bridgers on "Silk Chiffon", the lead single of the next self-titled album, released in 2022. In 2023, they teamed up with Holly Humberstone on "Into Your Room", followed by the live recording Live at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. In 2026, the band returned with their fourth studio album, Dancing on the Wall.
