Danish singer Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen, born August 13, 1988 in Odense, shortens her name to MØ to launch herself on the music scene. Her first song, "Maiden", released in 2012, corresponds to the meaning of her pseudonym in Old Scandinavian. In the wake of this essay, published in Denmark, followed a string of singles spread out over 2013: "Glass" in January, "Pilgrim" in March and, finally, " Maiden" in October. Pilgrim " in March, which, supported by Danish radio station DR P3, reached No. 11, followed by "Waste of Time" in June. By this stage, MØ's name was starting to circulate outside the country, so much so that Swedish DJ Avicii chose her to sing on the track "Dear Boy" from his album True. In August 2013, the track "XXX 88", featuring rapper and producer Diplo, raised MØ's profile, as she worked on her debut album at the same time. In October, the release of the Bikini Daze EP including her new track "Never Wanna Know" closes a prolific year. While MØ's style is rooted in the electro-pop tradition stemming from the 1980s, the intrinsic quality of the musician and singer's melodies comes to the fore with the single "Don't Wanna Dance", which precedes the album No Mythologies to Follow, delivered in March 2014. The following year, her notoriety expanded with a collaboration with Major Lazer on the global hit "Lean On", one of the most listened-to tracks on platforms in the decade. She continued collaborating with Diplo, Charli XCX and Justin Bieber, before releasing the album Forever Neverland (2018), which consolidated her international status. In 2022, the following album Motordrome proved to be more introspective. The singer then performed at festivals across Europe, covering The Raveonettes' song "Attack of the Ghost Riders". In 2024, the release of the single "Who Said" was followed by "Wake Me Up", "Keep Møving", "Lose Yourself " and "Heartbreak", the other singles from the album Plæygirl, released in May 2025.
