MIMS

Shawn Maurice Mims, known simply as Mims, was born on 22 March 1981 in New York City and raised in the Washington Heights neighbourhood. He began his music career under the pseudonym Mr. Mims, releasing singles such as "L.O.V.E/I Made a Vow" in 2000. After gaining some recognition in Canada with appearances on compilations like Private Party Collectors Edition Vol. 2 and collaborations with artists like Choclair, Mims dropped the "Mr." from his name and released additional singles under independent labels. Mims' breakthrough came with "This Is Why I'm Hot", produced by Blackout Movement, which peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. Mims ultimately signed with EMI and Capitol Records. His debut album, Music Is My Savior, was released in March 2007 and included notable singles like "It's Alright" and "Like This". Following this, Mims released his second studio album, Guilt, in April 2009, featuring the single "Move (If You Wanna)". Despite these achievements, Mims' relationship with his record label deteriorated, leading him to pivot into the technology field.
