Mel Parsons, born on October 21, 1981, in New Zealand, is a singer known for her contributions to alternative country and indie folk music. Growing up near Westport, Mel Parsons began playing piano and guitar at a young age. In 2007, she returned to New Zealand to start work on her debut album Over My Shoulder, which was released in 2009 through her own label, Cape Road Recordings. Her subsequent albums include Red Grey Blue (2011), Drylands (2015) and Glass Heart (2018). Mel Parsons has toured extensively, including performances at Folk Alliance International. She has been recognized with awards such as Best Country Music Song at the 2016 New Zealand Music Awards and Best Folk Artist at the 2020 New Zealand Music Awards. Her sixth album Sabotage was released in June 2024.
