May East

Maria Elisa Capparelli Pinheiro, known professionally as May East, was born on January 29, 1959, in Brazil. She began her career in the artistic community between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In 1981, she joined the band Gang 90 & Absurdettes, blending new-wave music with beatnik poetry. Her first single, "Fire in the Jungle/Índio" was released in 1984 under EMI. Her debut album, Remota Batucada, followed shortly after, featuring an original mix of electronica, folk music, and new wave pop. She continued to release albums such as Tabapora in 1987. East later moved to the Scottish community of Findhorn, where she focused on ecological activism.
