Mat Kearney, born December 1, 1978, in Eugene, Oregon, began as a literature student and college soccer player before discovering music in Chico, California. After a pivotal trip to Nashville with producer Robert Marvin, Kearney left school and settled in Tennessee to pursue songwriting. He debuted in 2004 with Bullet, followed by his breakthrough 2006 album Nothing Left to Lose, which earned chart success and major tours. In 2009, he released City of Black & White, followed by Young Love (2011), Just Kids (2015), Crazytalk (2018), and January Flower (2021). Known for blending hip hop, folk, and pop, he has charted five Top 20 Adult Pop hits and toured with artists like John Mayer and Keane. In 2019, he revisited City of Black & White with a new EP and acoustic tour. Kearney lives in Nashville with his wife Annie and their three daughters. His music continues to evolve, embracing new genres like EDM.
