Masters at Work is an American house-garage production and remix team, formed in New York City in 1990 by "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez. The duo have produced music together under names including MAW, KenLou, Sole Fusion, and Nuyorican Soul. Their 1991 single "The Ha Dance" became highly influential in the Black and Latino LGBT ballroom scene and the dance style known as vogue. In 1993 they created the Nuyorican Soul project, working extensively with musicians such as Vincent Montana Jr., Roy Ayers, George Benson, Jocelyn Brown, and Tito Puente across Latin, disco, and jazz styles; the self-titled Nuyorican Soul album followed in 1996, featuring both original tracks and reworked classics. They have also built an extensive career as remixers, reproducing tracks for artists including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Donna Summer, Aaliyah, Jamiroquai, and the Spice Girls, and have been nominated three times for the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Remixes of their tracks by UK DJs in the 1990s helped give rise to the speed garage genre, and they have been credited with generating the "Golden Age" of Latin house. In 2021, they relaunched MAW Records with their first new track release in 20 years. Their career, spanning from 1990 to the present, underscores a lasting influence on the history of house music.
