Marusha

Marusha Aphrodite Gleiß, or Marusha for short, was born on November 18, 1966 in Nuremberg and grew up in Greece with her grandmother until she returned to Germany at a young age. As a DJ, producer, presenter and occasional actress, she made her mark on the German techno and electronic music scene. Her genre includes electronica, happy hardcore and breakbeat. In 1989, Marusha opened the techno club "One" in Nuremberg with friends. From 1990, she hosted the pioneering radio show Dancehall on DT64, then Rave Satellite on Radio Fritz from 1992 - until 2007. At the same time, she produced the TV show Feuerreiter (ORB/ARD) from 1993 to 1996. Her breakthrough followed in 1994 with the debut album Raveland, which reached number 4 in the German charts and remained in the hit list for 24 weeks; in Austria and Switzerland it reached number 31 and 15 respectively. The single "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from Raveland reached number 3 in the German singles charts and sold over 500,000 copies. Other chart successes include "It Takes Me Away", "Trip to Raveland" and "Go Ahead". 1995 sees the release of the second album Wir, with singles such as "Deep" and "Unique"; the album reaches number 81 in Germany. No Hide No Run followed in 1998, which was not as successful as its predecessors (94th place). She then released mix and DJ albums such as Nonstop (2002), Offbeat (2004), Heat (2007), Club Arrest (2012) and Rave Satellite (2018). Most recently, the single "Mental Safehouse" was released in March 2023
