Dune is a German music project founded in Münster in 1994 by DJ Oliver Froning (born July 25, 1963 in Münster), Jens Oettrich and Bernd Burhoff. The name is derived from the science fiction film "Dune - The Desert Planet". Musically, Dune moves between happy hardcore, Eurodance and classical music. The debut album Dune is released in 1995 and contains the singles "Hardcore Vibes", "Are You Ready to Fly?" and "Can't Stop Raving", which reach the top 15 in both Germany and the Netherlands. The vocals are provided by Tina Lacebal and the then eleven-year-old Janine Kelly-Fiddes. In 1996, Verena von Strenge joins the band as a singer. The second album Expedicion was released in the same year and produced the hits "Rainbow to the Stars", "Hand in Hand" and "Million Miles from Home". The latter is used in Germany as the official song for the 30th anniversary of "Star Trek". At the end of 1996, Dune ventured a change of style: the album Forever was released with the London Session Orchestra, reaching number 2 in the German charts and going gold. The single "Who Wants to Live Forever" goes platinum. After personnel changes and less successful releases, including the album Forever and Ever (1998) with Tina Lacebal, a reunion with Verena von Strenge follows in 1999. However, the single "Dark Side of the Moon" was unable to build on earlier successes. The planned album Reunion was never released; instead, the compilation History was released in 2000. Since 2003, Oliver Froning has continued the Dune project as a solo artist. He regularly performs as a DJ and releases new singles, including "Magic Carpet Ride" (2016), "Starchild" (2017) and "Utopia" (2018). Further titles such as "Revenge", "Interval Bass", "What Was I Made For" and "Evolution" follow in 2023.
