Maharajapuram Santhanam, born on May 20, 1928, in Sirunangur, Tamil Nadu, India, was a Carnatic vocalist. He began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, and later studied with Melattur Sama Dikshitar. Santhanam's early career saw him composing songs dedicated to Lord Murugan and Kanchi Shankaracharya, Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamigal (Maha Periyavar). His breakthrough came with popular compositions such as "Bho Shambo" and "Madhura Madhura", both composed by Swami Dayananda Saraswati. Notable songs include "Unnai Allal". He was awarded the Sangeetha Kalanidhi by the Madras Music Academy in 1989, and received the Padma Shri in 1990. Santhanam died on June 24, 1992, in a car accident near Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu.
