Madonna

Madonna Louise Ciccone is an Italian-American entertainer who grew up in a suberb of Detroit suburb. After her ballet teacher suggested she might have a career on the stage, she flew to New York at the age of 19 with the dream of becoming a dancer. She joined rock band Breakfast Club and performed in New York dance clubs with drummer Stephen Bray. Discovered by Seymour Stein, she signed to the Sire label and, with her first single 'Everybody' in 1982, Madonna's career was underway. Popular pop/dance tracks catapulted her to international fame with tracks 'Holiday', 'Borderline', 'Like a Virgin', 'Material Girl' and 'Papa Don't Preach'. Seldom out of the news, she courted controversy and the constant reinventions of her image led her to become a major figure in the music industry. Madonna has had a string of successful albums in her career, including the debut release 'Madonna' (1983) which peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200, 'Like a Virgin' (1984) which peaked at number one in the album charts of the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, UK and US, 'True Blue (1986) and 'Like a Prayer' (1989) which both reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and the Billboard 200, 'Erotica' (1992), 'Bedtime Stories' (1994) and 'Ray of Light' (1998) also reached high chart positions around the world, with the latter striking at number one and hitting platinum sales around the world. She has also enjoyed an on-screen career in films such as 'Desperately Seeking Susan' (1985), 'Dick Tracy' (1990) and 'Evita' (1996), for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture or Musical Comedy. In 2012 she performed as the headline act at the Superbowl XLVI halftime show at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. In the same year came her 12th studio album 'MDNA' which featured the single 'Give Me All Your Luvin''. 2015 saw the release of 'Rebel Heart' and incorporated collaborations with Avicii, Diplo and Kanye West. Madonna's 14th album 'Madame X' arrived in 2019 featuring the single 'MedellĂ­n' with Colombian singer Maluma. She performed at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv alongside American rapper Quavo.
