Lunatic Calm

Lunatic Calm, a British electronic music group formed in 1996, consisted of Simon “sHack” Shackleton and Howard “Howie” Saunders. The duo, long‑time collaborators who had previously performed with Thom Yorke in projects such as Headless Chickens, launched their career with the 1997 single "Roll the Dice", which garnered attention on the UK club circuit. In September 1997 they released their debut album Metropol on MCA Records, a collection that blended big‑beat rhythms with industrial textures and earned comparisons to The Prodigy; the title track "Leave You Far Behind" became a staple, featuring on soundtracks for The Matrix, Charlie’s Angels, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. In 2002 Lunatic Calm issued Breaking Point through City of Angels, but the label’s collapse and lack of promotion curtailed the release, leading to the group’s dissolution in 2003. Post‑breakup, Shackleton pursued a solo career as Elite Force and later released a self‑titled album in 2016, while Saunders joined the production partnership DoubleDose and directed AudioFuel. Despite a brief tenure, Lunatic Calm’s tracks continued to appear in video games and film trailers, cementing their influence within electronic and rock‑influenced soundtracks.
