L'Âme Immortelle, an Austrian darkwave duo, was formed in 1996 by Thomas Rainer and Hannes Medwenitsch. The group initially consisted of three members: Rainer, Medwenitsch, and Sonja Kraushofer, who joined later as the lead vocalist. Their first song, "Final Oath", was composed in 1996 but not released until 2001 with the single Judgement. In 1997, L'Âme Immortelle sent demo tapes of their album Lieder Die Wie Wunden Bluten to European record labels. MOS Records signed them and re-released the album in Switzerland, marking their debut in the darkwave scene. The band's second album, In Einer Zukunft Aus Tränen Und Stahl, was released in 1998 and featured the hit song "Bitterkeit". In 1999, they toured with Christian Death and signed with TRISOL MUSIC GROUP. Their third album, Wenn Der Letzte Schatten Fällt, solidified their status as a leading darkwave act. The band's fourth album, Dann Habe Ich Umsonst Gelebt (2001), featured live string sections and achieved significant chart success, reaching number 48 in the German charts. In 2002, Hannes Medwenitsch left due to health issues, and L'Âme Immortelle continued as a duo with Ashley Dayour joining as a live guitarist. Their album Als Die Liebe Starb (2003) reached number 38 in the German charts. In 2004, they signed with BMG/GUN Records and collaborated with OOMPH! on their single "Brennenden Liebe". The duo released several more albums, including Gezeiten (2004), Auf Deinen Schwingen (2006), and Unsterblich - 20 Jahre L'Âme Immortelle (2016).
