Ékoostik hookah, a jam band from Columbus, Ohio, formed in 1991 with Dave Katz on vocals/keyboards/acoustic guitar and Steve Sweney on lead guitar. The band's name, pronounced "Acoustic Hookah," was derived from dictionary entries for the two words. Their debut album Under Full Sail was released in 1991. Over the years, Ékoostik hookah has released numerous albums including Dubbabuddah (1994), Double Live (1996), and Where the Fields Grow Green (1997). The band has shared the stage with notable artists such as Willie Nelson, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Weir, and Bruce Hornsby. They have also performed at various venues across the United States and overseas in locations like Amsterdam and Jamaica. Ékoostik hookah is known for their semi-annual music festival Hookahville, which features performances from local and regional bands. The band has endorsed several charitable causes, including Pittsburgh's BurghSTOCK Concert Series that benefits homeless and disabled military veterans.
