Kobra and the Lotus, a Canadian heavy metal band from Calgary, Alberta, formed in 2009 by lead vocalist Kobra Paige. The group initially consisted of Paige, guitarists Matt Van Wezel and Chris Swenson, and later added drummer Griffin Kissack. They released the debut album Out of the Pit (2010), featuring a cover of "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead with a solo by Rik Emmett. Kobra and the Lotus released their self-titled second album Kobra and the Lotus (2012) under Universal Music Group, and performed at festivals such as Sonisphere Festival and Hellfest. Following lineup changes and an eight-month touring hiatus for Paige, they released their third studio album High Priestess (2014). The album reached number 4 on the CMJ Loud Rock Radio chart in the United States.
