Between 2015 and 2016, rapper Kekra (the verlan word for "crack") from Courbevoie in the Hauts-de-Seine region, released two free mixtapes on the internet, entitled Free Base Volume 1 and Free Base Volume 2. The public discovered an artist who voluntarily masked himself, refusing to reveal his true identity, and who readily cites Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka and Young Thug among his influences. In the greatest secrecy, he prepared a first mixtape entitled Vréel, which was released in 2016 and immediately entered the French album charts. The same year, he released the third volume in his Freebase mixtape series. In 2017, he unveiled two projects, Vréel 2 and Vréel 3, before releasing his first full-length opus , Land, which rocketed up the French charts. In 2019, Vréalité, Kekra's second album, was released, with the rapper's only collaboration to date: with Niska. In 2020, he returns to the forefront with the single "Putain de salaire". This preceded the arrival of Freebase Vol. 04. As prolific as ever, in 2021 he released his third studio album, soberly named Kekra and featuring 17 tracks, including the single "Dans l'dos", which reached number 59 in the French SNEP chart. Two years later, he returned to the studio with Stratos . This 18-track album features duets with Zamdane, Alpha Wann & La Fève and Hamza.
