Kanon Wakeshima (born June 28, 1988) is a Japanese singer-songwriter, cellist, and illustrator, recognized as the first J-pop cello vocalist. Encouraged by her parents, she began playing the cello at age three and later merged her classical roots with a passion for songwriting and singing. After participating in Sony Music auditions during high school, she signed with the label and debuted in 2008 under the production of Mana (Moi dix Mois), releasing the single Still Doll. Her fusion of cello and vocals set her apart in Japan’s music scene. Her debut album, Shinsoku Dolce (2009), was followed by international opportunities, including performances in France and collaborations in the anime world. Transitioning to self-production in 2011, she expanded her artistic expression, incorporating diverse musical styles and conceptual live performances. One of her releases, "Right Light Rise"(2015), highlights her evolution as an artist, blending her signature cello melodies with modern arrangements. Between 2019 and 2020, she lived in London, engaging in street performances, recording, and live house shows, which broadened her creative perspective.
