Jullyann Inderia Gordon Black, known professionally as Jully Black, was born on November 8, 1977, in Toronto, Ontario. She is a Canadian singer and songwriter raised in a strict Pentecostal household by her single mother, Agatha. At age 19, Black was discovered by Warner/Chappell Music and subsequently signed with Universal Music Canada. Her first notable hit was "Rally'n" in 1998. In 2005, she released her debut album This Is Me, which included the hits "Sweat of Your Brow" and "5x Love". Her second album, Revival (2007), won the Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Jully Black has collaborated with numerous artists, including Nas, Destiny's Child, Sean Paul, and Kardinal Offishall. She followed up with albums The Black Book (2009), Three Rocks and a Slingshot (2022), and The LP (2025).
