Jeff Tweedy

A guitarist from an early age, Jeff Tweedy (born in Belleville, Illinois, on August 25, 1967) met Jay Farrar in his teens, with whom he formed several bands before settling on the name Uncle Tupelo (1987-1994), participating in the folk and country revival movement. The break-up of the band after Farrar's departure led to the creation of Wilco, which he has been leading since 1995. Alongside his regular Wilco output, Jeff Tweedy is involved in the supergroup Golden Smog, alongside Gary Louris and Marc Perlman (The Jayhawks) and Dan Murphy (Soul Asylum). In 2002, he composed the soundtrack to the film Chelsea Walls under his own name, then teamed up with Jim O'Rourke for the Loose Fur project. In 2006, he released his first solo album Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest, accompanied by a DVD of these acoustic concerts. On three occasions, in 2010, 2013 and 2017, he produced albums by soul singer Mavis Staples. With his son Spencer Tweedy, he produced the album Sukierae (2014) under their own name, then turned his attention to writing and producing albums by Low, White Denim and Richard Thompson. The album Together at Last that followed in 2017 was dedicated to acoustic covers of tracks by Wilco or Loose Fur. The following year sees the release of Warm, his first original solo album, as well as his memoirs in the book Let's Go (So We Can Get Back). Recorded at the same time, the album Warmer sees the light of day in April 2019, followed by Love Is the King (2020) and its live counterpart, Live Is the King (2021). Back with Wilco for three albums between 2022 and 2024, Tweedy returns solo in 2025 with Twilight Override, a 30-track triple opus launched by the Enough EP.
