Jamie Lidell

Jamie Lidell is a British singer, songwriter and producer born on September 18, 1973 in Huntingdon, England. Known for his unique style blending soul, funk, R&B and experimental electronic music, he began his career as part of the electronic duo Super_Collider with Cristian Vogel, whose album Head On was released in 2001. At the same time, Lidell embarked on a solo career with a debut album, Muddlin Gear (2000), released on Warp Records, marked by a glitch and abstract aesthetic. He really came into his own with Multiply (2005), an album hailed for its blend of vintage soul and inventive electronic production, driven by the track "Multiply". This album marked a turning point, affirming his vocal identity close to the great soul voices of the 1960s and 1970s, while retaining a modern approach. 2008 saw the release of Jim, more direct and luminous, with Motown and Stax influences, followed by Compass (2010), co-produced with Beck and including collaborations with Feist, Grizzly Bear and Chris Taylor. In 2013, he returned with Jamie Lidell, an album with funk, electronic and synthetic sounds, inspired by the productions of Prince or Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. His sixth studio album, Building a Beginning (2016), marks a return to more organic, introspective and warm soul, written in part around his new family life. Alongside his solo career, Lidell has collaborated with numerous artists including Beck, Gonzales, Feist and Simian Mobile Disco, and has also made a name for himself as a podcaster with Hanging Out with Audiophiles. Based in Nashville, he continues to explore the boundaries between analog and digital, between soulful emotion and sonic experimentation. After the experimental Nagroni (2024), with Hainbach and Ayjay Nils, he returns to a simpler song format on Places of Unknowing (2025), alternating acoustic piano and electronic keyboards.
