Hubert von Goisern

Hubert von Goisern, whose real name is Hubert Achleitner, was born on November 17, 1952 in Bad Goisern (Upper Austria). He shapes the so-called new folk music and is considered a pioneer of alpine rock, in which he combines alpine sounds with rock, pop, blues, jazz and world music. In 1986, he founded the band Original Alpinkatzen in Vienna. In addition to Hubert von Goisern, the members include Sabine Kapfinger (vocals), Reinhard Stranzinger (guitar), Stefan Engel (keyboard) and Wolfgang Maier (drums). The breakthrough came in 1992 with the album Aufgeigen stått niederschiassen, which reached number 1 in the Austrian charts. In the same year, the single "Koa Hiatamadl" was released and became a commercial success. The album Omunduntn followed in 1994 and again topped the charts in Austria. After the Alpinkatzen disbanded, Hubert von Goisern pursued a solo career. His most successful solo albums include Fön (2000), Iwasig (2002), s'Nix (2008), EntwederUndOder (2011) and Federn (2015). The single "Brenna tuats guat" reached number 1 in the Austrian charts in 2011. The album EntwederUndOder wins several awards. The studio album Zeiten & Zeichen is released in 2020, followed by the live album Zeiten & Zeichen live 2022 in 2023. Hubert von Goisern receives numerous awards for his musical work, including several Amadeus Awards, the RUTH Prize for World Music and the Amadeus Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. He lives and works in Salzburg and remains a formative artist in the German-speaking world through musical projects with social and cultural aspirations.
