Hellbillies

Hellbillies, a Norwegian rock band, was formed in 1990 in Ål by Aslag Haugen (vocals and guitar), Bjørn Gunnar Sando (drums), Arne Moslåtten (accordion , flute and guitar), Arne Henry Sandum (bass), and Lars Håvard Haugen (guitar). The group initially gained traction with their debut album Sylvspente Boots in 1992. Their early albums often featured songs originally recorded by US country music artists, reimagined with new lyrics in the Ål dialect of Norwegian.Hellbillies released multiple studio and live albums throughout their career. Notable releases include Pela Stein, for which they won a Spellemannprisen award in 1993, Lakafant (1995), Drag (1996), Sol Over Livet (1999), Niende (2004), and Spissrotgang (2007), which earned them the Spellemann of the Year award in 2007. They have also collaborated with American musicians, such as Rob Hajacos from Nashville. The band has continued to release albums such as 2016's Søvnlaus and 2021's Blå dag, culminating in the honorary award by Spellemannprisen in 2022 for their long-running career. In 2024, they returned with the live LP 30 år på vegen.
