Melbourne-based synth firebrand Mike Katz aka Harvey Sutherland infuses jazz, electro, funk and disco mix with boundless, groovy energy. The analog synthesist has been entertaining dancefloor enthusiasts worldwide since the release of his Nexus EP in 2013 and has garnered critical acclaim across the board. Subsequent years have yielded numerous singles and EPs, including 2014's Brothers EP. In 2016, Katz launched his own label, Clarity Recordings, marking the first release with the double-single "Priestess" b/w "Bravado". 2017 saw the release of debut mini-album, Expectations, which was also self-released on Clarity. In February 2020, the funk-powered "Superego" single dropped. In 2022, he released Boy (House Anxiety), a self-produced record exploring themes of self-reflection and masculinity through a fusion of synth-funk, disco, and electronic textures. Beyond his solo work, Sutherland has produced for other artists, remixed acts like Khruangbin and Disclosure, and earned acclaim for his analog, groove-oriented live performances that bridge the gap between club culture and live jazz-funk instrumentation. In October 2025, Sutherland released Debt, featuring collaborations with Julian Hamilton of The Presets and the Florida electronic hip-hop duo They Hate Change.
