Guus Meeuwis, whose full name is Gustaaf Stephanus Modestus Meeuwis, is a Dutch singer, songwriter and guitarist born on March 23, 1972 in Mariahout, in the province of North Brabant. He rose to fame in the 1990s as the central figure of the group Guus Meeuwis & Vagant, which he formed with several fellow students at Tilburg University, where he was studying law. The band scored a smash hit in 1994 with the song "Het is een Nacht... (Levensecht)", originally written as a university project, which became a huge hit in the Netherlands and Flanders. Several albums followed under the name Guus Meeuwis & Vagant, including Verbazing (1996), Schilderij (1997) and Vagant (1998), blending Dutch pop, text songs and acoustic arrangements. In 2001, the group disbanded and Guus Meeuwis embarked on a solo career, pursuing a melodic pop vein with Dutch lyrics infused with nostalgia, romance and elements of everyday life. He has released a number of successful albums, including Guus Meeuwis (2002), Wijzer (2005), Hemel Nr. 7 (2007), WW8 (2008), Armen Open (2011), Hollandse Meesters with New Cool Collective (2014), Morgen (2015) and Geluk (2018). Alongside his recording career, he has become a key live performer in the Netherlands, notably thanks to his annual Groots met een zachte G concerts at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, attended by tens of thousands of spectators, from which the albums en public Live in het Philips Stadion (2006), Groots met een zachte G 2010 (2010) and Groots de Latste - Live in het Philips Stadion (2024) are taken. He also collaborates with a number of Dutch and Belgian artists, and occasionally appears on television. After several singles in the 2020s, he releases the duet with Maksim, "Sparen voor de nacht", which reaches no. 9 in the Dutch Tipparade and no. 26 in the Belgian Ultratop.
