Gisela João

Gisela João Gomes Remelho, known as Gisela João, was born on November 6, 1983, in Barcelos, Portugal. She developed an early passion for fado at age eight and began performing in local venues by her late teens. In 2009, she recorded an album with Atlantihda. João's breakthrough came in July 2013 with her self-titled debut album Gisela João, which reached Number one in Portugal and won the "Prémio Amália" Award for Best New Artist. Her subsequent albums include Ao Vivo (2015) and Nua (2016). João's international success led to performances across Europe, Brazil, and more. She participated in the tribute album Amália: As Vozes do Fado, interpreting "Medo" and "Meu Amor, Meu Amor" with Camané.
