Gino & Geno are a foundational Brazilian sertanejo duo formed in 1970, consisting of Sebastião “Gino” Ribeiro de Almeida and Geraldo/Mauro “Geno” Gonçalves Pereira. They first rose to prominence in the early 1970s with traditional sertanejo and country-influenced hits like “As Águas do São Francisco” (1982), cementing their status with albums such as Irmãos Boiadeiros (1972), Serra da Mantiqueira (1978), and O Sorriso da Mulher Goiana (1980). After a quieter period during the 1990s, they returned triumphantly in 2000 with Coração Cigano, produced by Rick of Rick & Renner, rekindling their signature blend of heartfelt lyrics and dance-ready rhythms. Their 2002 single “Ela Chorou de Amor” became a staple on Brazilian radio, followed by high-energy live recordings like Gino & Geno Ao Vivo (2004) and A Galera do Chapéu: Ao Vivo (2006), which showcased their showmanship. In 2016, they released their 26th studio album, Tô Bonito ou Não Tô?, while a lineup change in 2019—welcoming Mauro Avante as Geno—led to fresh singles like “Cuiabana,” “Minha Fonte,” and “Vai Morrer Bebendo.”
