George Canyon

Frederick George Lays, known as George Canyon, was born August 22, 1970 in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, and became a Canadian country singer. After jobs, he broke into the scene with the single "My Name," a top‑five hit. His debut album One Good Friend (2004) won a Juno Award for Best Country Recording of the Year, and Somebody Wrote Love (2006) yielded the single "Good Day to Ride." Subsequent releases such as What I Do (2008) and Decade of Hits (2014) maintained his chart presence. George Canyon received Country Music Association nominations. In 2014 he became the anthem singer for the Calgary Flames, and his memoir My Country (2022) chronicles his career.
