Genki Rockets

Genki Rockets was a Japanese virtual band formed in 2006 by video game developer Tetsuya Mizuguchi and record producer Kenji Tamai. The group featured the fictional 17‑year‑old frontwoman Lumi, voiced by Rachel Rhodes and Nami Miyahara, and was introduced through the Lumines II video game soundtrack. The breakthrough came with the release of "Heavenly Star" on 15 February 2007, which entered the Oricon charts at Number 24 and remained for 15 weeks; the track was later remixed by artists such as Metalmouse and Headwaters. In July 2007, the maxi single "Heavenly Star" / "Breeze" was issued, followed by the Heavenly Star EP on 4 July 2007 and the Breeze single on 24 August 2007. The band’s debut album, Genki Rockets I: Heavenly Star, was released on 2 July 2008, and their second album, Genki Rockets II: No Border Between Us, followed on 7 September 2011. Notable collaborations included a 3D music video for "Curiosity" in 2011 and a joint project with Aimer on "Play Goes On" released in March 2024. Genki Rockets received the Best New Artist (Electronic) Award in 2007 and the group’s work has been featured in video games such as Child of Eden and No More Heroes, marking significant milestones in virtual music production.
