Thomas Kukula, born on October 6, 1965, in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a German DJ and musician known professionally as General Base. He began his career in 1986, working as a DJ in smaller clubs in Düsseldorf before moving to the Tarm Center in Bochum two years later. Kukula's breakthrough came with the release of "Mein Gott, es ist voller Sterne" under the name General Base in 1991. This track set the tone for his subsequent projects and led to commercial success with albums like First (1992) and notable singles such as "Back Again", "Apache", and "Poison". The latter, initially released as an instrumental, gained chart success after a vocal version featuring Claudja Barry was released. Kukula continued to produce hits under various pseudonyms including Candy Beat, T.H.K., and Red 5. His work with Red 5, particularly the hit "Da Beat Goes", placed him in the top 20 of the German charts. Throughout his career, Kukula has also created numerous remixes for artists such as Moby and Bass Bumpers. He continues to work as a music producer and DJ based in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
