Gary LeVox

Gary LeVox – born Gary Vernon, Jr. on July 10, 1970 in Powell, Ohio – is a country music singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist best-known as the lead vocalist of country superstars Rascal Flatts. He began his performing career singing in public for the first time at the age of 8. By the time he was 14, he had founded an AC/DC cover band. After graduating Olentangy High School, he attended Ohio State University. Enticed by his cousin, bassist/vocalist Jay DeMarcus, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus joined forces in 1999 with guitarist/vocalist Joe Don Rooney and formed Rascal Flatts. Very early into their career, the band signed a record deal and began recording their debut album. Although he was born Gary Vernon, Jr., he assumed the stage name Gary LeVox, which was inspired by the tape label on the studio console that designated the controller responsible for his lead vocals. Rascal Flatts scored a Number 3 hit with their first single, “Prayin’ for Daylight” (2000). Over the next 17 years, the band released 11 studio albums – eight of them reaching the Number 1 position on Billboard’s Country Albums chart – two live albums, four EPs, five compilations, and 40 singles. The band won numerous awards during their career, becoming one of the most celebrated country music groups of their generation. In January 2020, Rascal Flatts announced that they would be disbanding but would head out on the road for a farewell tour. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic put the tour on indefinite hold. In the meantime, Gary LeVox embraced his faith-based musical roots and began working on his first solo recordings. In March 2021, he released his first Christian music single, “The Distance”.
