Fireman

Fireman is one of the artists gradually shaping the Ivory Coast rap landscape. Alongside names like Ken Gohan, Ramba Junior and Didi B, these artists are shaping a very specific style: Ivory Coast rap. Born in Abidjan, Fireman was immersed in music from an early age, and was soon inspired to become an artist. Influenced by his brothers, who brought Ivorian and American rap home, the likes of 50 Cent, Rick Ross and Jay-Z soon stood out, as did Booba and Kaaris in the French-speaking world. While he was already spouting his first rhymes at the age of 16, it was in 2016 that his sketches took shape with a first mixtape, Firetelli. It features the Ivorian's signature blend of rap and ziguehi rhythms, a musical movement born in the country around the 1980s. However, Fireman put the brakes on his personal production to devote himself to his group, SVBV, which includes Kadja, D14 and Chinois l'Apocalypse. The Dephvnce project (2019) was a success, and the tracks "Apprentice" and "Papa Polo", with their galvanized rap over kuduro-like productions, racked up hundreds of thousands of views. However, the group split up and Fireman took off on his own again. The compositions added up and the track "Gangaba" released on April 22, 2020, like a return to the essence of trap and ziguehi, heralded a new project. Firetelli 2 was released the following year, establishing Fireman as a major player on the Ivory Coast rap scene. In 2024, he returned with the album KYFFY, an accomplished project featuring collaborations with leading Ivorian artists such as Himra, Elow'n, J-Haine and Kadja.
