Filharmonie Brno

The Brno Philharmonic (Filharmonie Brno) is a Czech symphonic orchestra based in Brno, Czechoslovakia, that formed in 1956. The ensemble was established through the merger of the Brno Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Brno Regional Symphony Orchestra and are famous for being a leading Czech orchestra and for their association with the works of Leoš Janáček. Břetislav Bakala served as the group’s first chief conductor between 1956 and 1958. Their principal concert venue is the Besední dům, and they perform regularly at the Janáček Theatre. Their discography includes the collection Janáček: The Orchestral Works (1992) and recordings for labels including Supraphon, Sony Music, and their eponymous label established in 2020. Notable conductors of the ensemble include Jaroslav Vogel, František Jílek, and the chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies.
